Blurb reads:
London is a Country. This book has been called The London Anthology because the publishers believe that in length, scope, sensitivity, and arrangement - apart from its many fine illustrations - it is a unique description of the "City of the World".
Here are over 200,000 words, and nearly 700 extracts arranged under more than fifty headings - such as Accidents, Actors and Actresses, Air Raids, Crime and Punishment, East End, Eccentrics, Food and Drink, Horrors, Lodgings, Manners, Parties, Plagues, Prisons, Sport, Suburbs, Sundays and Traffic. The authors fange from Pepys to Mollie Panter-Downes of the New Yorker, from Stow to Shaw, from Henry Machyn to Rose Macauley - providing a running commentary on varying aspects of London life at different periods...
